Mahamayuri is the embodiment of three Buddhas:

Mahamayuri is the sambhogakaya of Shakyamuni because in one of Shakyamuni’s previous lives, Shakyamuni Buddha reincarnated as the Peacock King.

Mahamayuri is the nirmanakaya of Amitabha Buddha. According to the Amitabha Sutra there are jivajiras, peacocks, parrots, and kalavinkas in the Western Pure Land. Among them, the peacocks are the nirmanakaya of Amitabha Buddha.

Mahavairocana looks solemn and dignified and his overall appearance is that of Mahamayuri.

Mahamayuri’s wearing a Mahavairocana crown signifies her equality with Mahavairocana and that her origin is Mahavairocana. Mahamayuri is the predominant combined manifestation of these three Buddhas.

A peacock feather is placed in a Tantric empowerment vase to indicate that the empowerment vase itself is the embodiment of Mahamayuri. In other words, the empowerment vase is itself the emanation body of Mahamayuri.
Because Mahamayuri embodies the collective dharma power of the three buddhas, she is able to change even predestined karma which one can only escape with great difficulty. Hence, Mahamayuri’s power is unlimited.
According to the Mahamayuri Sutra, during the time of Buddha there was a monk, Savatthi, who was bitten by a poisonous snake and was suffering excruciating pain. After Anand related this incident to the Buddha, the Buddha taught a method of self-cultivation for removing ghosts and demons, poison, and disease.

Among all Vidyarajas, it is Mahamayuri who appears most beautiful and compassionate. She belongs to motherly side of Vidyarajas. She has four arms:
Her first right hand holds a white lotus symbolizing calamity eradication (removal of all calamities);
Her first left hand holds a yellow auspicious fruit symbolizing increase in fortune (fortune increase in all aspects);
Her second right hand holds a red bijapura symbolizing love and respect (perfectly harmonizing all affinities);
Her second left hand holds multi-colored peacock feathers symbolizing subjugation (subjugating all mara obstacles).
Therefore, the four hands of Mahamayuri represent calamity eradication, fortune enrichment, love and respect, and subjugation. All the wishes of humans are in her hands. One can cultivate this deity’s dharma for the purpose of calamity eradication, enrichment, magnetization, and subjugation.
Mahamayuri eats poison and can eat all the chemical toxins in one’s body. When one is able to detoxify, one can be healthy, have longevity, and live freely.

Generally, after a peacock has eaten a poisonous substance, it will take on a glow radiate and become shiny. The peacock’s feathers will become even more beautiful. In our society there are people who take ketamine or other toxic substances. These toxins can be cleansed by reciting the Mahamayuri mantra.

The key cultivation points of Mahamayuri sadhana are:
Her four refuge mantras are different from our usual ones.
Namo Guru Bei,” this is to take refuge in the root guru.
Namo Mahamayuri,” this is to take refuge in the buddha.
Namo the Mahamayuri Sutra,” this is to take refuge in the Mahamayuri Sutra which means taking refuge in the dharma.
Namo the Retinue of the Mahamayuri Assembly,” this is to take refuge in the assembly which means taking refuge in the sangha. Mahamayuri’s assembly is comprised of the Seven Buddhas above, Maitreya in the center, Pratyeka buddhas and Sravakas on the left and right side respectively, eight heavenly kings, twenty-eight yaksas (constellation), Navagraha, and the twelve zodiacal mansions. All of the above constitute the retinue of Mahamayuri.

The mandala of Mahamayuri (assembly diagram): It can be written as: Mahamayuri in the center, which can be represented with peacock feathers. Above Mahamayuri are the Seven Buddhas, then Maitreya, Pratyekabuddhas, Sravakas, and the eight heavenly kings. Below Mahamayuri are twenty-eight yaksas, and surrounding Mahamayuri are Navagraha, the twelve zodiacal mansions, etc.. Her retinue also includes the retinue of her sambhogakaya, nirmanakaya, and the equivalent body that are blessing her. This is how her mandala should be arranged.

To practice the Mahamayuri sadhana, one must ”develop bodhicitta” and ”make offerings” to the deity. The offerings include external offerings, internal offerings, and dharma offerings. Dharma offerings mean buddha-nature offerings, that is, transforming one’s buddha-nature into Mahamayuri. When one spiritually unifies with Mahamayuri, one’s body, speech, and mind are identical to Mahamayuri. This is the dharma offering or buddha-nature offering. This offering of the buddha-nature is extremely powerful and one should not make even the slightest error. This is what is referred to as the buddha-nature offering.

In practicing Mahamayuri one can supplicate for something as important as a country’s peace or for something relatively insignificant such as a cure for swine flu or any new type of flu. According to the Mahamayuri Sutra, Mahamayuri practice can cure all illnesses.

One who chants the Mahamayuri mantra and achieves union with the deity will experience the emergence of their buddha nature. It is the buddha-nature which is truly the greatest thing of all.
If one completes 600,000 recitations of the Mahamayuri mantra one will definitely be reborn in Maha Twin Lotus Ponds. This is of utmost significance!

Living Buddha Lian-sheng Sheng-yen Lu, the great dharma king, compassionately transmitted the Mahamayuri Uncommon Practice, the Starlight Body Practice, the Rain Praying Practice, the Rain Stopping Practice, the Earthquake Eradication Practice, the Fortune Enrichment Practice, the Love and Respect Practice, the Body and Mind Purification Practice, the Exorcism Practice, and the Disease Eradication Practice.
