《Guru’s Talks》
(Book 236 The Magical Hands of Sheng-yen Lu《盧勝彥手的魔力》)
The Grandmother Guardian Spirit
‧Written by Master Sheng-yen Lu‧
This is the account of a very pretty young college student. She had elegant brows and beautiful eyes, as well as ruby lips and pearly white teeth.
She had many pursuers and was always involved in romances.
Being a generous spirit who was naturally poised, she found herself often in the limelight and many at her school considered her the most beautiful girl there.
But one day, her legs suddenly became limp and she was unable to stand up.
She was paralyzed!
She could only attend school in a wheelchair.
Despite all this, she managed to focus her energy studying and continued to get good grades in college.
Her parents took her to see many famous doctors, both western and Traditional Chinese medical doctors, but to no avail.
MRI scans showed nothing wrong with her brain, bones, nerves, muscles, or tendons.
They consulted jitong, the traditional mediums in temples, and after ingesting talismans, incense ashes and taking ablution with remnants of incense sticks, there was no improvement.
They then turned to alternative therapists such as massage therapists, chiropractors, masseuses, acupuncturists, diviners using the Book of Changes, and bone-setters. After exhausting all methods, her parents were still unable to help their beloved daughter stand up.
Why was this happening? No one knew.
Someone then introduced them to me.
Her parents wanted to come, but they encountered sarcastic comments from the dharma teacher they had taken refuge in:
“There is no need to see this person!”
“Everything about him is fraudulent!”
“I have so much disdain for this person that I cannot even mention his name!”
“He is a fake living buddha!” “It is not right to talk about subjects of extraordinary things, feats of strength, disorder, and spiritual beings!”
The teacher her parents had taken refuge in was considered quite famous in the Buddhist circles. He did not like Grand Master Lu and thus tried to prevent them from coming to see me.
After a long period of time, her parents secretly took her to the temple to see me.
After I gave her a mo-ding, I looked at the light in my palm and saw an elderly woman with both legs entwined and immobilized by vines.
I asked my Yidam, “What does this mean?”
My Yidam replied, “Her grandmother is her guardian spirit. Since her guardian spirit’s legs are tied up, this young girl’s legs thus became limp.”
I suggested the family excavate her grandmother’s casket.
When the casket was opened, “Bingo!”
Indeed, vines had coiled around both the grandmother’s feet. They simply cut up the vines and removed them.
The first day after the vines were cut, the college girl felt strength slowly coming back to her legs.
Finally, she was able to stand up.
Now how strange is this!
